Written by Corrie Jones on 1st February, 2017
Valentines day is a great time to do something special for your partner by cooking up some lovely dishes for you to enjoy together. Show your loved one how much you care with this morning till night time menu of delicious Valentines Day treats.
1. Breakfast - Heart Shaped Eggs and Toast
Start the day with breakfast in bed….
Why settle for ordinary eggs and toast when you can show your love with this version?
Using a large heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out a heart from the centre of each slice of bread. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the slices including cutout and cook until slightly toasted. Turn slices and carefully break an egg into the centre of each slice. Cover the pan and cook until the egg is done to your liking. Carefully transfer the bread to a plate and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Serve with toasted heart for dipping into yolk.
2. Lunch - Mini Heart Shaped Pizzas
If you are home together then cook up these tasty heart shaped pizzas. The recipe is for a simple margherita but you can add as many toppings as you wish! To save time buy a pre-made base.
Parmesan or your favourite cheese
Herbs of your choice to season
Using shaped pastry cutters cut the pizza base into hearts. Cover them with passata then add the sliced cherry tomatoes and any other toppings you like. Sprinkle with Parmesan or your favourite cheese and top with herbs to give extra flavour. Bake for 5- 8 mins until cooked, serve with salad
3. Dinner - Roasted Heart Potatoes
You can serve these lovely potatoes with a Steak or a Vegetarian dish of your choice.
6 large potatoes
salt and ground pepper
2tsp caraway seeds
1/2tsp paprika (optional)
Preheat oven to 200c, line baking tray with foil and brush with oil. Boil potatoes for about 3 minutes, drain potatoes and let them cool slightly. Combine all the other ingredients for the marinade then pour over potatoes, stir and let sit for 5 minutes. Spread potatoes evenly onto the baking sheet and roast for 20-25 minutes, turning half way with a spatula to ensure they are cooked evenly.
4. Dessert - Chocolate Brownies
Time to use those heart shaped pastry cutters one more time! This is the only brownie recipe you will ever need. Once tried you will never make them any other way.
400g caster sugar
225g butter, melted
60g cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
225g plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
60g chopped milk chocolate
Mix all ingredients in the order given. Bake at 180c for 20 - 25 minutes in a rectangular 23 x 33cm greased baking tin. Cool, and then use heart shaped cutter to cut out shaped brownies. The key to making a good brownie is not to overbake, they are supposed to be a bit gooey! You can check this by poking the middle of the brownie with a knife to see if it is cooked, there should be some residue left on the knife when you remove it from the oven.
5. Cocktails - Lady In Red
Finish the night off with some cocktails!
1.5 ounce of bourbon
1 ounce Pomegranate Juice
0.5 ounce lemon juice
Ginger Beer (chilled)
Combine lemon juice, pomegranate juice and bourbon in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for a minute then pour over ice in a rocks glass and top off with ginger beer.
So there you have it, a full menu for the whole day!! You will notice these recipes are really easy, I like to keep things simple and I hope that it means you will give it a go!
Have a great valentines day
